Tomcat as Anticancer

Tomcat as Anticancer. TOMCAT not only as natural predators to control pests in rice planthopper. In the medical world, tomcat contains pederin which can serve as an anticancer.

Reporting about the recent tomcat adorn many media. This insect is considered endemic in Surabaya, Madiun, Pati and Jakarta.

In fact, insects whose real name is Paederus fusipes more ills than benefits for humans. Tomcat is the natural predators of pests brown planthopper. A brown planthopper tomcat can eat per day to seven planthopper pests.

"Insects are more useful than the ugliness," said Dr. Purnama Hidayat, Insect Specialist Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Agricultural Institute of Bogor (IPB), Tuesday (04/10/2012).

As a useful addition to natural predators of pests in rice planthopper, tomcat apparently has potential as an anticancer thanks pederin content in the body.

This was confirmed Dr. Mira Ikawati SPKK. Mira doctor explained that pederin can inhibit DNA and an anticancer candidate. But no further research in this regard.

Mira doctor advised to avoid the irritation that occurs from exposure to pederin content in tomcat and part of the body should not be patted, enough to avoid the discharge of pederin expelled from the body tomcat.

"Usually the skin irritation that occurs not because of the bite or sting, but rather the grinding or destruction of tomcat on the skin surface," explains Dr. Mira.

Tomcat-related outbreaks of insects on some time ago, Dr. Purnama suspect it could be their natural habitat is disturbed so that the insects migrate to residential areas. Dr. Purnama suggested when it was discovered many tomcat in residential areas should be reduced lighting at night.
